Detoxing in Alta Valle Stura

It is the destination for many this summer and will certainly be the place to be in autumn: Alba, Barolo, Barbaresco & Co. During three to four days visiting a few wineries a day, lunch and dinners with pairing wines. And then you are on the scales....

Yes, it's time to take a more active approach in an area that is at least six degrees cooler than the wine hills of Nebbiolo, Arneis and other varieties.

So it's interesting to be sporty. In the evening, even in the summer, the nights are cooler and so you have the guarantee to enjoy a well-deserved night's sleep.

Your journey from our boutique hotel in Cherasco to this region is only 1h10 minutes or from Alba it will take 1h34 minutes. If you want to catch a historical visit to Cuneo on the way, you are free to do so. A very beautiful city by the way.

Your first intoduction to Alta Valle Stura

Your final destination for day 1 will be Valloriate for the first night, Albergo Fungo Reale. The name says it all. This is a family hotel with a tasty, traditional and local cuisine and also a "fungo" shop. The owner is a very jovial man, immediately you will be included in the group. The staff is very dedicated...

If you don't want to dine again for a few hours, you can visit a very typical Bar-Enoteca in Festiona. Just one more and then the next morning we'll be able to do some sports.

"Food" is taken to a very high level here and the local specialties - and how they can be integrated into an aperitivo - cena formula - are unique. It was a big surprise to find the big names from Langhe-Roero, including GAJA, in the meter long presentation of their cantina...By the way, we also tasted them. Numerous wines can be tasted here in a formula "by the glass". Want to bet that it won't be just one?

To add to that, I would like to tell you that Fungo Reale and this unique place in Festiona are only 10 minutes away from each other by car.

Your action day

Do you like water? Then we have a rafting site for you. Or do you prefer to do a descent by canoe? Are you the type who prefers to brave the rocks with a climb? Then you are here in paradise on earth. On horseback? We have the perfect solution for this as well. Or do you prefer to burn calories by trekking or biking along rivers and in a forest area overlooking the peaks of the mountains? The latter is the activity that appeals to most. Slow Motion with panoramas that really offer your trekking - biking an emotional picture.

In the course of your activity naturally you will get "Fame", which translates as hunger. You can satisfy your hunger in the location of the same name or you can adjust your trekking route and have lunch in one of the rifugio's. This gives you two "to do's" in one program.

Are you in Alta Valle Stura on a Sunday? Maybe Gastronomical Sundayoncertos iare your thing... No dining in a restaurant, but picking up a Gastronomic Picnic and choosing a spot at one of the many Picnic places.

Another nice place to have lunch is Bagni di Vinadio where Remo, an alpine guide, will certainly give you some great suggestions. Not only can you have lunch, but you can also enjoy a dinner and stay overnight with a view of the mountain tops.

Don't forget to visit Alberto, the main man, who made honey production his daily activity and took over the family business. He can show you the way in the production, what the difference is between his various species. Tested, his honey is the best we have ever tasted.

Or visit Marta and Luca, who have a cheese production and who raise about 100 sheep/goats to the top of the mountain every day to graze and then in the evening make the village of Sambuco very lively by descending through the small streets with all those enthusiastic milk donors.

Your place to spend the night (so, 2 nights, 2 different places to get to know) is one in a thousand. A b&b that shows the creativity, the different attitude of the owner. He travelled far away and always took something from each country with him to restore and present it to the public in a fairly unique way. What is particularly striking is how the strong bond with his deceased father comes to the fore, especially by the issues that his father loved so much and the culture of this region that his father was so intensely involved with in one other way or the other. A unique breakfast based on only local specialties.

Do you want to stay here for several days or do you want to try out the family hotel or stay at Remo with a view of the mountain tops and the terrace? That is also possible! Flexibility is our trump card.
Even in winter this is a top ski location ... So the whole year through your authentic Valle Stura Experience!
